DISTRICT MAKE-UP

The Western Coventry Fire District consists of the western half of the Town of Coventry encompassing over 30 square miles.  It is one of the largest districts in Rhode Island.  It covers half of the town in area and is the largest wooded district in the State.  Fire and EMS services are provided by the Department and are funded by fire taxes collected annually by the Fire District from property owners of the area.  Our fire district taxes have historically been the lowest in the town and we strive to preserve the lowest rate.

The Fire District's affairs are governed by a taxpayer-elected Board of Directors who appoints the Chief of the Fire Department.  The Chief, in turn, appoints his departmental officers, a Deputy Chief, Fire and Rescue Captains, and Fire and Rescue Lieutenants.  The Department has two full-time positions that of Firefighter/EMTs to answer the daily fire/EMS calls and assure that the day to day operations are running smoothly.

The Western Coventry Fire Department's highly trained Firefighters and EMTs are made up of volunteers from within the community.  Our volunteers receive a stipend for their many hours of service.  Residents are often surprised to learn the Fire and EMS professionals who respond to their 911 calls are their neighbors from next door or just down the street.  The men and women of the Western Coventry Fire Department provide the best service for the dollars spent and are proud of this fact.
