Activity
The night shift continues to work well. CCFD responded to a recent call on Potter Road. The call came in during the 4:00-6:00 pm shift when there is no coverage at the station. Three of our EMTs responded from their homes out in Greene and were on scene within a few minutes but unfortunately nobody from the Summit area was able to respond with our rescue vehicle.
Apparatus
Rescue 8 was sent to the International truck dealer for minor repair work on the brake system.
Personnel
Two new members are on board. One is an experienced firefighter with certifications. The other is a certified firefighter/EMT-C. I am not accepting applications without certification. One of the new members is a Foster Center firefighter. I am starting a program, which allows the Foster Fire departments personnel to run with our department providing that these individuals are fully certified in fire and EMS. This was an idea that I have had for two years but preferred to initiate it with the opening of our new station. I anticipate that this program will be successful.
One of our members has passed the EMT-B state test and is awaiting his license. Two other members passed the EMT-C course and will be taking the state test on 7-15-09. The Deputy has scheduled the Firefighter I course which will begin in the fall. To date we have received $5,000 in grant money for this training. The Potterville Fire Department has invited us to a joint training involving confined space firefighting. They currently have on loan from the Navy a trailer, which is set up for the confined space evolutions. We also trained with Central Coventry on fire hydrant operations.
I have not heard from FEMA on our grants at this time.
Respectfully Submitted,
Chief Joel Pomfret
