Activity
The 6pm-12am duty shift is working well. The apparatus is responding in a timely fashion with certified personnel on board. All of the emergency calls have been covered by our department. Call volume is currently down 1.9%.
Apparatus
Rescue 8 had repairs performed on the A/C unit. Engine 9 and 18 had their pumps tested and certified. Engine 9 had a mechanical failure during its pump test. The technician was able to repair the pump back at the station and complete the certification. The Chief’s car went out for repair after it had broken down while returning from a call. The repair technician also claims the vehicle has extensive corrosion on the undercarriage of the vehicle. The necessary mechanical repairs were performed and the car is back in service.
Gear
Approximately 16 sets of noncompliant gear have been removed from service. Most of that gear dated back to the 80’s.
Personnel
We are all eager to move into our new station. Two former members are back on our roster and active once again. Two EMC-C’s have contacted me in regards to joining our dept.
We are showing a good turnout on training nights. The recent Saturday training in Old Mystic was a success. Mystic Fire provided the instructors as well as the fire training facility. All of our personnel that attended this event participated in several live burn evolutions. We are continuing in the EMT recert. Two members are waiting to take the EMT-B state test. The cardiac course in Foster is finally winding down.
Grants
I have applied for three grants with the state stimulus funds. There is not much information as to how these grants will be awarded or when. I have also submitted two grants to FEMA. The Woonasquatucket League has awarded us $2,000 for the Firefighter I course. I now have received $5000 in grant money for the FF I course which is being scheduled with the State Fire Academy.
Respectfully Submitted,
Chief Joel Pomfret
