To:                  Western Coventry Fire District Board of Directors

Subject:            NEW FIRE STATION BUILDING COMMITTEE REPORT

Date:              March 17, 2009

1.      The building committee has met on four occasions since the last report of February 17.

2.      Much recent administrative effort has been given to the soon to be recommended agreement with Joseph McPhee Architects, Inc. for the balance of the construction administration task.  Joseph McPhee has been in attendance at the past five building committee meetings, attended site meetings and has been most helpful in maintaining construction progress by working with the general contractor, engineering subcontractors and the records of Prout Robert & Elias, the original architectural firm.

3.      It would appear that the severe cold weather has past.  The split block veneer is presently being applied and the interior grade has thawed allowing for the start of the installation of the radiant heat plumbing and concrete slab.

4.      A suitable location for the two 7,000 gal. sprinkler system cisterns has been identified that will not involve the costly removal of ledge.

5.      An inter-office memorandum at DOT was distributed this past March 13 stating that the Chief Engineer had approved the PAP application for the issuance of a permit.  A PAP should be forthcoming no later than March 27 at which time; the Coventry Planning Official will release the building permit application to the Building Official.

6.      Of the original hard cost budget of $1,870,000, present estimates, commitments and payments total $1,831,685 leaving a hard cost balance of $38,315.

7.      Of the original soft cost budget of $330,000, present estimates, commitments and payments total $244,548, leaving a soft cost balance of $85,452.

8.      The above stated estimates, commitments and payments totals do not include the yet to be determined cost of furniture, fixture, equipment and landscaping.  Funding for these items will be derived from the balances shown.

Respectfully,

Committee: John Humble (C), Kent Novak, Richard Holt, Chief Pomfret, Joe Tatro, Glenn Underwood
