Activity

The department has gained 6 new volunteers.  We have over 20 personnel turning out in training nights.  We recently were faced with back to back calls on a Saturday.  First an EMS call followed by a chimney fire.  We responded to each call with an adequate crew for each call.

Apparatus

The tank on E-8 is leaking water and had to be relocated to the Greene station due to the rug in the training room becoming a sponge.  This is the same problem that we experienced 2 years ago with E-18.  A new poly tank was installed on E-18 at that time with a cost of approximately $20,000.  I have received a quote from one vendor and awaiting two other vendors for the cost of a new tank installation.  R-8 is at Coastal International for a coolant leak.

Personnel

Two members are approaching the one year cycle for their EMT-B licensure which I have not received at this time.  Several of the students who recently completed the EMT-B training, now have dates set for the state test.

Trainings

The propane training which was held on 11/22/08 was a success.  There were 40 firefighters that responded and participated in this event.  Three participating mutual-aid departments were well represented.  We also participated in a live burn training in Foster which was the last burn training for the season.

Other Business

The FEMA check for the radios arrived as well as the $2,000 grant for the EMT-B class.  The Coventry Police Department received the FEMA money for the EOC Training exercise which was held several months ago.  The funding will be distributed to the respective departments that participated in that event.
