The department outing was recently held at the Hickory Ridge Family Campground. A good turnout responded to the event and enjoyed the day. A basket of food was collected for the purpose of distributing those goods to a local food bank. This past Saturday we were faced with four calls and got out for all of them. E-9 was called in to a working fire in Central Coventry while R-8 and E-8 relocated to the Central Coventry station providing coverage to the town during that event.
R-8 went out for repairs related to its cooling system. The MAST trousers on the rescue also failed which were replaced with a used set that was purchased. There have been rumors about the state not mandating this equipment in the future. The trailer for the RTV has been delivered and is registered and insured. Annual hose testing is close to being completed.
We have one new recruit on board and another that expressed an interest in joining upon completion of a EMT training coarse that she is currently attending. The new schedule for the full time personel seem to be working for the best at the current time.
The EMT-B coarse has ended and the participants are moving on the state test. The new training schedule has been posted which includes the R.I.T. Practical, EMS recertification as well as joint trainings with our mutual-aid departments. The Deputy Chief has also included two live burns which will take place at the Moosu-up Valley burn house.
We have received approximately ½ of the wildland firefighting gear. According to the company spokesman, there is a shortage of nomex due to the high demand of that product by the US Government. The remaining dollars will be petitioned as we will request additional firefighting gear. The wildland grant is still pending for the skid mount unit for the RTV.
Respectfully Submitted,
Chief Joel Pomfret
