Once again we are covering all of our calls. Several members continue to sleep in at the station on various nights. A department outing has been scheduled on 9-27-08 for all dept members, elected officials, and any sub committees members as well as family members. The Woonasquatucket Leauge has resumed their monthly meetings after taking the summer months off. They have a tanker shuttle training scheduled which will take place in West Glocester. We will not participate with our tankers but we have been invited to attend for observation purposes.
We have begun training with the RTV. Rescue 8 went to Road Rescue to have the reverse camera repaired. Me and the Deputy Chief recently visited with some of our mutual-aid neighbors to check up on any new apparatus and equipment they may have purchased. This is a practice that I like to do once a year as it may affect the run cards.
No changes.
The EMT-B program will be finished in two weeks. WE have 8 of our members attending that program. The recent town EMA disaster drill went well. Three of our officers participated in the EOC, while three of our EMS personnel participated in the shelter exercise. Coventry is the first town in the state to coordinate both the EOC and shelter training into one event. The event was monitored by the RI EMA as well as other Town officials. Coventry Fire, DPW, Police and Human Services participated in this event as a unified command.
The structural firefighting gear has been received and inventoried by the Deputy Chief and Captain Guastini. The gear has been issued to all personel. We are currently awaiting the arrival of the wildland gear. The RI Forestry Division has accepted our grant request for a skid unit/hand tools for the RTV. This is a matching grant. IF we accept the grant, our share of the cost is $3,000.
Respectfully Submitted,
Chief Joel Pomfret
